Full description

Ourika is Marrakech's summer refuge, a river valley an hour from the city where the temperature drops several degrees and the roadside fills with cafés whose tables stand directly in the running water.

On the way you stop at a Berber pharmacy and spice house, then visit a traditional home with a saffron and herb garden. Deeper into the valley the red cliffs close in and the road ends at Setti Fatma, the village below the famous seven cascades.

With a local mountain guide you scramble 30 to 45 minutes up the rocks to the first waterfall — a genuine little adventure with a cool pool at the top. Lunch is grilled meat or tagine at a riverside table before the drive back.
